How we score Vastu
Every floor plan Vaastify generates comes with a Vastu score out of 100 — a single number that tells you, at a glance, how well your layout aligns with classical Vastu principles. Here's exactly what that score means and how we arrive at it.
What we actually check
Where each room sits. We lay an invisible 9×9 grid over your home — the traditional Vastu Purusha Mandala, 81 cells in all — aligned to true north. Every room is checked against exactly where it falls on that grid. A kitchen is judged against what's traditionally right for a kitchen's position, a bedroom against what's right for a bedroom, and so on. If a room spans more than one zone, we score it as a blend, weighted by how much of the room actually sits in each.
Your main entrance. Which wall your front door sits on, and roughly where along that wall — this is one of the most influential factors in your overall score.
How rooms relate to each other. Classical Vastu treats certain room pairings as meaningfully favorable or unfavorable — a kitchen and a toilet should never share a wall, a dining room next to the kitchen is favorable, a pooja room and a toilet must never share a wall, and so on. We check your layout against this set of relationships.
The shape of your plot. A perfectly rectangular plot is the classical ideal. We evaluate any missing corners ("cuts") or protruding sections ("extensions"), and where they fall, since different directions carry different significance.
The center of your home — the Brahmasthan. This is treated with real weight in two ways. First, we simply never place a room there in the first place, by design. Second, if a room ever did land there, it would score at the lowest possible tier, for any room type, without exception — the center of the home is meant to stay open.
How your score is calculated
Each of the checks above produces its own individual score. These are then combined into your one overall number — not as a simple average, but as a weighted one. Room placement carries the most weight, since it's the foundation of the layout. Your entrance carries substantial weight too. Room relationships and plot shape act as secondary adjustments on top of those two main drivers, nudging the score up or down rather than counting equally alongside them.
Nothing is ever held against your plan for being unscoreable — if a particular check genuinely doesn't apply to your layout, it's simply left out of the average rather than counted as a mark against you.
Your overall score, and each individual room, falls into one of these tiers:
- Preferred — well-aligned with classical guidance
- Acceptable — reasonably placed, no significant concerns
- Avoid — not classically favored for this purpose
- Prohibited — a placement classical Vastu specifically advises against
- Not Evaluated — no applicable guidance exists for this case, rather than a mark against it
The system behind the score
Vaastify scores every plan against a single, consistent system we call Mainstream Consolidated — a synthesis of broadly-agreeing guidance across the Vastu Purusha Mandala tradition, the Brihat Samhita, and the Mayamatam and Manasara silpa-shastra texts, as commonly used in modern Vastu consulting practice.
Every generated plan — regardless of how it was designed internally — is scored through this exact same system. Your score isn't affected by which part of our platform produced your layout; it reflects your actual floor plan, evaluated the same way every other plan is.
A note on how we handle the gray areas
Classical Vastu texts don't speak with one voice on every possible question. Where the guidance across traditions genuinely agrees, we apply it directly. Where it doesn't — or where no classical source addresses a specific case at all — we say so rather than presenting a guess as settled tradition. We'd rather be honest about where judgment was involved than overstate the certainty of any single number.
Your Vastu score is a meaningful, evidence-based guide to how your layout aligns with classical principles — but it's advisory, not a substitute for a licensed architect, structural engineer, or a personal consultation for decisions specific to your family and your plot. For that, our Vastu consultation service connects you directly with someone who can look at your plan in detail.
